Welsh Language & Bilingual Opportunities at PRP Training
PRP are committed to working closely with other Consortium members to promote the Welsh Language and the culture of Wales; and to develop the bilingual service and curriculum provision to better meet the needs of the local communities.
What Are We Trying To Achieve?
The Consortium will contribute towards fulfilling the Welsh Assembly Government’s vision to create a bilingual Wales as outlined in ‘Iaith Pawb’ (2003), the Welsh Medium Education Strategy (2010) and other national strategic policies.
As part of the Consortium, PRP are looking to:
Promote the use of the Welsh language
Increase Welsh language/bilingual learning provision and opportunities within the curriculum
Engage 100% of Welsh speaking learners who have previously received Welsh-medium/bilingual education to undertake elements of their programme either through the medium of Welsh or bilingually in order to facilitate continuity and progression.
Provide Welsh speaking learners with the necessary Welsh-medium/bilingual support to enable them to complete either elements of their programme or the entire programme through the medium of Welsh/bilingually.
Monitor and review learners’ bilingual needs
Undertake self-assessment to analyse information on learners’ Welsh language skills and actively monitor the take-up of Welsh-medium/bilingual provision
Provide Welsh Language training for learners to acquire/develop their Welsh language skills
Develop and provide access to bilingual promotional and learning materials
Undertake surveys to assess and record the Welsh language skills of staff to inform future planning and delivery of Welsh-medium/bilingual provision
Ensure the recruitment of sufficient staff to deliver through the medium of Welsh
Encourage staff to participate in Welsh language skills training, in the Welsh Language Sabbatical Scheme and the bilingual mentoring programme
Improve Bilingual Communication with the Welsh Speaking public – i.e. signage, emails, letters and promotional/advertising materials
