PRP Training

An ambitious project has been kick started by the generosity and enthusiasm of Pembrokeshire people. Well over 1,000 new trees have been planted to provide a haven for wildlife.

People came to help whether aged 7 or 77 and everything in between. They came as families, work colleagues, fellow students and trainees, parties of Dads and as individuals joining together to conserve our beautiful County. The trees will provide a suitable space and environment for Pembrokeshire wildlife to spread, providing a lasting legacy. They will also help protect the Hentland Coppice Project which will provide Willow to stabilise river banks as well as offering training opportunities to help local unemployed people into employment.

Thanks to a tremendous community effort, over 1,000 new trees have been planted towards a target of 3,500 to be completed in this New Year! Gareth Jones, conservation volunteer and Chair of Pembroke 21C Community Association said, “The project is totally dependent on local goodwill which is so very much appreciated.  Individual volunteers, families and organisations have all supported it in the different ways that they can.” Pembrokeshire College informed their students of the need and they volunteered generously. P.R.P. Training filled a minibus with volunteers. (It was so full that a member of staff had to be left behind!) A group of local Dads came from Plant Dewi.  At least 20 colleagues from Valero gave their support. Valero has also made the land available for the trees as well as improving access to enable essential equipment to be used. Long standing volunteers at Pembroke 21C Community Association also gave their time. Additionally, the Volunteer Bureau at Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services can always be relied upon to let enquirers know of projects, and is enthusiastic to welcome new helpers.
